I was 70 miles away from home and broke down on the side of the road and this was the closest auto parts store to me. I called them to see if they could bring the part I needed to fix my car. They said they had the part in stock but they only deliver to shops so they couldn't help me. Now that's some great customer service. Just for the record Auto Zone was happy to deliver the part for me.

I have been to this store several times and they are usually helpful. However, recently I broke down at the other end of the parking lot where Advanced is located (about a minute walk). My battery died and I went in and arranged to buy a new one. The battery was on the counter and I started asking whether they could install it. It is the middle of January and about 10-20 degrees outside. The manager said that he was unable to leave the store. I replied that even if my car were out in front of the store he would have to leave the store. He more or less just shrugged and repeated the policy. So I asked for loaner tools that they advertise in bold letters in front of their store. He said that they don't have any tools to give me and suggested I just buy some cheap ones that they have for sale there; the loaner tools were for big projects like changing a water pump. There was no explanation of why he can't go to the end of the building other than "policy." There was no explanation why he couldn't loan me a ratchet, an extension and two sockets (8 and 14mm) just an uncaring shrug (which they obviously have there otherwise they wouldn't be able to change the batteries that make it to the front of their door). I just wanted to get my car running again and it seemed that the acting manager cared more about not having to work or go outside in the cold than trying to help a customer whose car is broken down. For a company that suggests, "Service is our best product" their other products must be pure garbage. I asked for the store manager's name as well as the corporate phone number. Nevermind, that the corporate number is 1800 Advance or that it is printed on every receipt. The man running the store, who would never give me his name, had to call his manager at home to find the corporate number. I left and made arrangements to be picked up so I could pick the tools I needed from home. Went to Autozone who actually offered me the tools I would need. My alternator went out as well so I ended up spending $300 at Autozone that Advanced would have easily made by showing just a small amount of service and caring towards this former customer.
